ConGlobal Industries, Inc. Hosts Common Interchange Criteria Training Session

ConGlobal Industries, Inc. hosted the Southeast region collaborative training session on the Common Interchange Criteria (CIC) in its Charleston location in March. Participants included maintenance managers, surveyors and estimators from major shipping lines, leasing companies and depot operators. The one-day training session included a technical review of the CIC standards and measurements plus a hands-on field session.

CIC TrainingConGlobal was one of the original participants of the Container Owners Association CIC Working Group to create a more practical interchange standard between shipping lines and leasing companies. The CIC is only applicable to measurable impact damages, such as dents, bows and bends and not for non-measurable criteria, such as cleaning and cosmetics. It is also not a standard for in-service equipment but for equipment that is being interchanged between shipping lines and leasing companies. One of the main objectives of the CIC is to have the same standards across depots worldwide.

The CIC benefits the industry as a whole because it provides more accurate and smaller repair estimates resulting in reduced administration costs for the lessees, lessors, and depots. It creates a unified and simplified training program for surveyors and estimators.

A study was commissioned by the Container Owners Association to determine the savings of the CIC compared to IICL 5. The study showed that the CIC provides for shorter approval and repair turn-times with approximately two days savings and about 13% savings in repair costs.

“Hosting this meeting illustrates ConGlobal’s commitment to participating in activities that create industry wide standards to mutually benefit all parties involved in the equipment repair cycle,” comments Mike Baldwin, president and CEO of ConGlobal Industries.
